Re: Covid-19 Vaccinations in pregnancy with clarification on timing of vaccines.
Dear valued Clients of Blue Heron Midwives,
The most recent data on infection rates are showing a significant number of ICU patients in Ontario being pregnant. This is of great concern to all providers of pregnancy.
Pregnant people are now among a HIGH PRIORITY list for receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. The midwives at Blue Heron RECOMMEND you receive your Covid-19 vaccine. Partners also may qualify to receive a vaccine at this time as your caregiver.
To pre-register for an appointment online, please go to: https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/health-and-wellness/covid-19-vaccination-pre-registration.aspx
It is also recommended to receive a TDAP or whooping-cough vaccine in pregnancy ideally between 27 and 32 weeks gestation. If you receive your whooping cough vaccine first, please wait 14 days before receiving your Covid-19 vaccine. If you receive your Covid-19 vaccine first, please wait 28 days after receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before receiving your TDAP vaccine. If this means that you cannot receive both types of vaccine then we recommend that you choose to have the COVID-19 vaccine.
If you have further questions about these recommended vaccines in pregnancy, ask a member of your midwifery team at your next visit, email us at info@blueheronmidwives.com, or call the office at 519-954-0300 and Registered Midwife will get back to you about your specific questions.
Yours with warm regards,
The Midwives at Blue Heron Midwives
Stay safe, wear a mask, get your vaccine.
